It seems to me that Barack Obama is taking quick action on several issues, like lifting this ban that George W. Bush put on embryonic stem cell research. Obama has only been in office for about a month and a half, and I think people were expecting way too much of him if they were thinking that he would fulfill all of his promises during his first week as president. Some of the changes he has promised have been coming along, slowly yet not so surely. I am pleased to see, however, that he has reinstated stem cell research and that he recognizes the potential it holds. Conservatives who supported Bush's decision to ban this research were not exactly thinking about the greater good. I understand that extracting stem cells destroys human life, but it undoubtedly has the potential to save way more lives than it takes away. I see both sides of the argument and understand that some people may think destroying human embryos is immoral, but I think the greater immorality lies in allowing sick people to die in vain when a cure could have been possible. Referring to Obama's performance so far, he's been shaking things up quite a bit, especially with straight-out repealing this ban that his predecessor put into place. I expect that his new call for government transparency fosters some sort of trust between the people and the government, and the most important thing that Obama can do is to plainly keep his word. Otherwise, he would just be satisfying crazies like Rush Limbaugh.
