Sandra Day O'Connor

Jon Stewart did an interview with her last night, and she was AWESOME. She explained how the Supreme Court works: "You do your best, and then you live with it." Skip ahead to the last long segment (after two commercials) for the interview.

Sandra Day O’Connor is absolutely awesome! When I was in fourth grade, I did a project about someone who inspired me and for some reason, I chose O’Connor. I really didn’t know much about her at the time, but the simple fact that she was the first female Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States seemed admirable to me. Now, I can truly appreciate her legacy and what she has done.

I liked how she was aware of the criticism that judges across the U.S. continually get. I loved how she said, “Perhaps a lot of Americans had stopped understanding about the branches of government.” OMG! And only 1/3 of Americans can only name the three branches of government (Ms. McShane, I promise not to be in that 2/3 group when I grow old)! It came as no surprise however that 75% of people can name an American Idol judge…sometimes I think we pay more attention to entertainment than to politics.

I love Sandra Day O’Connor’s way of explaining things. She seems so knowledgeable, wise, and actually quiet funny [she is not a “swing” justice]. Her “pitiful little effort” is actually an awesome effort-- and I absolutely love that at her age she is showing everyone that she is in with the cyber world.

She definitely mentioned some things I think all people could learn how to do. Like “how to disagree disagreeably” -- I think all humans should work at this. I loved when she said, “You do your best and deal with it.” Before I thought they may had judged and taken it with them forever, but I really like her perspective. Her website definitely will be a success and I think I am going to check it out soon!
