It was very hard to build Obama's cabinet. This is a link to the cabinet I made using the game. http://innovation.cq.com/cabinet_maker?ver=dem&picks=1,1,1,2,3,2,2,3,1,3,3,3,2,1,1,3,2,1 Even though I knew the game was fake I was fixated on choosing the right people for the job. I read the descriptions of all the cabinet positions. After I had read the description of the job I read about all the candidates. I had never heard of some of the cabinet positions for example the Veterans Affairs Secretary (VA) who oversees veteran care hospitals, benefit programs, and national cemeteries. I also had never heard of most of the candidates. Overall it was exciting to be able to choose members for Obama's cabinet. Even though the game wasn't real I kept in mind how important the choosing of cabinet members would be. Soon we will all know who the new cabinet members are.

The “Cabinet Maker” was a lot of fun and very informative. It opened my eyes to how many people are involved in Obama’s (and all other presidents’) administration.
I saw several problems with the options presented; first of all, the choices were very limited. I would really like to see Colin Powell, an endorser of Obama that caused a media frenzy because he had served under the Bush administration, in the administration. Caroline Kennedy would be great as Education Secretary. She helped Obama choose Joe Biden as VP, gave a speech to introduced her uncle Ted Kennedy at the DNC, and would be a great addition to the team. How could Al Gore not be an option for Energy Secretary? He would be a natural first in my mind, at least. Other names of very popular choices I would have like to see: Defense Secretary= General Welsey Clark or Chuck Hagel; VA= Jim Webb; Commerce Secretary= Kathleen Sebelius, just to name a few. Hillary Clinton would be a good choice for many of these positions, but I doubt she even wants this. I think she wants to continue to be a Senator in NY. Warren Buffet as Treasury Secretary is also something I’ve heard a lot, but I don’t think he will be chosen. Well, Obama took the first step and chose Chief of Staff Rahn Emmanuel, a decision that received mixed reviews.
I think it would be very wise that Obama choose many of the Clinton administration’s cabinet. They helped make the Clinton administration a mostly prosperous one, and I think they could help the Obama administration be the same, if not better.
I was a bit concerned that Obama talks about changing the same old politics of Washington, but all these choices are mostly the same OLD people that have been involved in Washington forever. However, I think Obama needs to choose people with all this experience, as long as these people are open to change and share the same philosophy as their president. Obama needs former Clinton appointees AND new appointees, to have the perfect mix between experience and new energy.
I think the game should have included more diverse individuals. It would have been nice to see more Republicans, Hispanics (only Richardson, I think), Asian, etc. Although at Obama’s first press conference, the people behind him were somewhat diverse, at least more than in the past. He had some women standing behind him, which made me proud. In the game, there were some competent women that would do great, but certainly not enough of them.
I also think it is critical for Obama to select some Republicans if he wants to unify the nation. He should select his cabinet members based on expertise in their individual areas and NOT on their party affiliations. Even if Obama gives these Republicans “small” posts, it would show a bipartisan effort.
I chose Steve Heminger, Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission, for Transportation Secretary just because I think it would be cool to have a native San Franciscan! 63% of people had chosen him, which was awesome, but has anyone ever heard of him?
There are SO many posts! I knew most of them, but I had never heard of a few. One new post I learned about is the Office of Management & Budget Director (OMB). The Budget Director “oversees the preparation of the president’s annual budget and the formulation of fiscal policies.“ (according to the website) This is a totally important job and just with my experience in a high school Student Council I know that many people are needed to lead a community (in this case a whole nation) and that every single person must be motivated and hard-working. All the appointees in Obama’s administration will have these qualities. Another idea I had while playing the game was that Obama should keep many of the advisers he had during his very successful campaign. The success of the campaign, especially its financial status and connection to youth via technology, was amazing and the people that helped Obama during the campaign would do an amazing job. (They already helped Obama make a new website! Check it out.)
The game was a nice way to help people think of the possible new administrations. I’m glad these are jut suggestions, because I hope Obama is not as limited. Some very prominent names are missing, but this is a good start. I strongly believe that President-elect Barack Obama will make the correct choices and make an excellent cabinet.

I think this is cool that this is on the internet. I'm still working on mine but it's hard well not hard but a lot to read lol. But I do think it's cool because then people get to learn about the people that will be in Obama's cabinet . I feel sorry for Obama that he has to choose all these people alone. I didn't even know what I was really choosing for I just picked the people that I thought had the best description under their name. I didn't really know about there position i was choosing though. But ya to conclude this lol I didn't really enjoy reading it. It was hard and not fun lol =P k bye McShaneyyyyyy!!!!

The Cabinet game was a good way to learn about the main job of the President-elect during the time between Election Day and Inauguration Day. Doing this activity made me see how difficult a job this was- because a lot of people were well-qualified for the job. Obama needs to choose the best-qualified people who will get the job done well. I think it's a good idea for Obama to choose people who were in Clinton's administration and cabinet because they work hard and tirelessly, and there is past evidence that they will do well during this economic slump. I am confident that Obama will select an excellent Cabinet.
