Kind of a silly article about politics and pop culture here.

First of all I love the Twilight series! Anyway, reading this article made me laugh and find it really interesting how two big subjects can become one. I like the first sentence of the article "Zombie are red, vampires are blue." Republicans sounds scary and blood and Democrats sounds hot and amazing (WELL AT LEAST TO ME).Love the concept that the writer used: two things that made almost everyone around the to talk about!
I thought the Union Tribune article was very interesting. The article presents the theory that "zombies are red and vampires are blue." The quote means that zombies can be seen as being Republican and vampires as Democrats. The article asks if the election of certain political parties into office correlate with the type of movie monster that is popular at the time. Peter Dendle a professor at Pennslyvania State University doesn't believe it's just a coincidence. An explanation that the article gave is that monster movies can be seen as competing moral stories about "class warfare". Annalee Newitz noticed that 183 zombie movies were made in the last seven years, for an average of 26 a year. Bush's election in 2000 came at the start of a huge rise in zombie movies. This year a small amount of zombie films were released while there are many vampire movies to be released. (e.g. Twilight!!!! <--so exciting) Newitz thinks that the popularity of vampires this year was an indicator that the "blood-red tide had turned" or in other words that the Democrats are now in power. I thought the theory was very interesting. The theory that White House victories correlated with movie monsters and that it was almost as accurate as pollsters was funny. It might be true but I would need more proof to believe it. Robert Thompson, professor of television and popular culture at Syracuse University thinks that the less threatening image of vampires (e.g Twilight!!)"reflects a more inclusive politics". Overall I really liked the article. Especially since I love everything Twilight. =]
First of all this was a weird yet funny article. Democrats are the blue vampires while the Republicans are the red zombies. The battle between democrats and republicans has been a constant yearly and monthly fights’ well maybe not that much but they are constantly at war with each other. Both parties have different perspectives in the same topic of health, money management, and education and so on. During Bush’s term zombie movies came out fighting in gory battles and since then Republicans have now been associated with zombies, and Jimmy Carter has been associated with the famous Dracula and vampire movies. Each year one of these horror characters seems to fall out of fashion hahaha. Now that Obama is the new president he begins his fresh start with a very popular and new movie Twilight, which of course is a vampire movie. Well now that he is president I can’t wait to see all these vampire movies they are sure going to be exciting.
Like Karyn, I also love "Twilight" just because she got me addicted to it. Anyways, when I read the article, I thought that it's pretty cool how they connected "Twilight" and the election. I say that McCain is the zombie because he's very scary and and very strict about everything. Obama is the vampire because he "sucked" or took away all the negative things and he intoduced us to a new change.
This article was interesting and that it was funny too. Well I really like Twilight and I can’t wait to see it on Friday. It was pretty random that people are comparing politics to scary movies that come out when candidates are chosen, but it’s interesting. I can’t believe how many scary movies come out during or after a presidential election.
I found this to be very funny. The fact that they are connecting vampire movies with the presidents it very weird to me don’t understand how that happened though. Well anyways I love how they compare each party to neither a zombie= red, vampires = blue, red = rep, blue = dem. Well I don’t know why and I don’t get this at all, I just found it very very funny. And I think it makes no sense but yea.
Well i think that this article made politics more entertaining than it already has been made. It's funny how they have compared zombies with republicans and vampires with Democrats. The comparison, to me, is good because republicans seem the scariest and Vampires seem cool and interesting and that's how i felt about McCain and Obama. McCain being the scariest and Obama being the coolest. It's also interesting how certain people think it isn't just a coincidence how this vampire movie is suddenly coming out.
I thought this article was EXTREMELY intresting. I thought the quote "Zombies are red and vampires are blue" really entices the reader to see the big commotion with this article. The article obviously means Democrats are vampires and Republicans are the zombies. I thought this was a cool way to show the differences between democrats and republicans, since Twilight is becoming so famous. It's also very fun to see two major aspects of culture right now put into one concept.
I love Twilight and I saw the movie on Tuesday evening it was very good go see it! I was very surprised when the article mentioned that the horror genre was starting to fade but know is making a comeback. I hadn't really noticed that it was dying but maybe that's because I wasn't into horror shows and movies until I read Twilight. I think that horror genre gaining popularity is very symbolic to the change that Obama wants to bring to the US or at least that is what I hope. Now I get it when it said that "Zombies (Republicans) and Vampires (Democrats) are blue. Haha very funny. Overall this is a very good article that relates politics to pop culture.
I don't get why so many people are obsessed with Twilight. It's just a movie but I guess the book was that good. It's crazy how they compared zombies and vampires to politics. I would have never thought about that. Most likely because I'm not that interested in politics. It's also funny how they called republicans zombies and democrats vampires. I wonder what the people who are VERY into politics have to say about this. About how they're comparing movies to politics.
