I thought the street signs were funny. For awhile I thought both signs were real but unfortunately I was wrong. I hope this practical joke leads to a street named after our new president Barack Obama. I thought the post was going to be about how a new street in San Francisco was named after president Obama. Hopefully the joke leads to a real street named after him.
I could not really tell if this was real or fake. Anyway, it reminded me of the people's attitudes at Barack Obama's inauguration. Everyone made it apparent that they were sick of George Bush and wanted him out as soon as possible. They all were waiting patiently, anticipating Obama's arrival. The blatant rejection of Bush was somehow manifested in the unconditional support of Obama. This is apparent in the picture of the street signs, which shows how eager people were to replace Bush with Obama. This leads me to conclude that Obama and his assistants manipulated this to his advantage; he used the momentum of Bush's disapproval ratings to push himself up to the top. Indeed, it has worked. The only thing that is worrying me is that Obama is making huge promises that I am a little skeptical about. All I know is that he better fulfill these promises or he will let down all of his strong supporters. There is more pressure on this president than any other because he is representing much more; he is the manifestation of the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This sign, and the act committed by who ever covered up the "BUSH" sign with the "OBAMA" heading, is just a small representation of how the Obama administration is impacting the lives of American citizens. I believe that it is great that the American people finally feel they can trust their government (at least a bit more than before) and that they can back up many of its policies. On January 20th, (not to sound cheesy), the whole country held its breath waiting for the government to usher in the new era of HOPE, "YES WE CAN"s and transparency in government. We made a complete 180 degree turn, from really hating Bush (well, at least about 70 percent of our population) to feeling very confident in the new administration. What I truly love about our nation, is that no matter what your politics, citizens have the ability to voice their opinion. Especially in San Francisco, I am happy or at least satisfied, that people have always been very outspoken. The "Bush" street sign that they completely covered with the "Obama" sign is just a message of what some in San Francisco believe in. On a lighter side, this photo is hilarious! I would be curious to see how long the "Obama" cover-up is there for. Will the SF authorities really bother with this case, or will they leave it up forever? It will be interesting to see... I may just go to Bush/Obama Street soon. Happy Birthday, Ms. McShane!!!
