Oh no! I love the San Francisco Chronicle- especially how recently the Sporting Green section has been printed on green paper. I think their financial problems at the moment are caused by the two-prong problem- one, that print media has been in decline pretty much since the takeoff of the internet and availability of online news; and two, in a bad economy, people are cutting all the non-necessities, including the newspaper it appears. A $50 million dollar loss from last year probably led to as many pink-slips as the paper could afford to give out, so I know they're probably operating on the bare minimum now.
Still, I do hope that this particular paper stays in print- it just celebrated it's anniversary and even if only on principle, I think we need to save our newspapers. Since that other paper- I think it was the Chicago Times or something- shut down, I am afraid that a trend is beginning to arise, unfortunately, but hopefully people will intervene for more investors or more consumers and we can save the news.
