No wonder it's taking so long for any decisions to be made concerning the stimulus package, there are so many provisions and numbers involved in it that I got confused just reading about it. What I still don't fully understand is how any of it is really going to stimulate our economy. There were many mentions of billion dollar tax cuts and providing money for building projects, states, etc. Where is all the money supposed to be coming from and if we're cutting certain taxes, how is that going to improve the economy? In the end, I do hope that all the time and effort that's being put into this does actually provide a boost to our economy. As of yet, I don't really see how it's going to contribute to our problems.

I think it's great that the stimulus package has finally passed through the conference committee. There was much disagreement between parties in Congress, which made it so difficult to come to a compromise. This proposed bill offers $282 billion in tax breaks, $50 billion in transportation projects and drastically increased fiscal support from the federal government for Medicaid. One main concern about the bill is that the increased amount of spending by the government will not do very much to create more jobs. I think only time will tell whether or not this bill proves to be effective, but for the sake of the American economy I hope it is.

I'm sort of happy that the stimulus package passed, but it makes me really nervous. In my opinion, this stimulus package has the potential either to be really good for the economy or to be a complete waste of money. I can sort of see why the Republicans refused to pass the bill, because A LOT of money is involved, and it is important to make sure it is not spent carelessly. On the other hand, the money seems to be going to places where it will help a lot of people. Either way, this is a huge legislative victory for Obama and congressional Democrats. I just hope the stimulus package actually stimulates the economy and does not go to waste.

Just in case someone hasn't said this already, the last president to not have graduated from college is...

Harry S Truman.

He was in the law program at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, but he dropped out.

I definitely think that the proposed stimulus bill is very ambitious. The $790 billion package is unprecedented, but I believe that Obama wants to send the money into the right sectors of the economy. With the media's help, this stimulus bill is now placed at the top of the president's agenda, and I agree that, at this time, it should receieve a lot of attention. The welfare of the nation's citizens is dependent on a functional and prosperous economy. I was very interested in today's lesson on economic policy because I gained more insight about the causes and innerworkings of our current recession, even though we just touched on the subject. Housing foreclosures and job losses affect us personally, and Obama is focused on reducing these misfortunes by large-scale investments in areas such as infrastructure. Investments in alternative energy will benefit the country in more ways than just boosting GDP, and I imagine that this sector will offer a large quantity of jobs to Americans in the future as it is a growing industry. I think the creation of jobs is good and will help stimulate the economy by stimulating consumer spending. Everything works in a cycle, and I see that our economy functions well in a delicate balance.
