I love the fact that companies are trying to promote voting. Personally, I think that any incentive that causes people to vote is an absolute good. This is why TV channels like VH1 and MTV endorse voting with stars like Paris Hilton or Diddy.
The only negative that I perceive is that people might vote for the wrong reason - like free ice cream. It would be awful if someone didn't even care about what they voted for.
This years upcoming presidential election is the MOST important in U.S. history well that's what I believe because we have an African American running as president and we have another presidential canidate running as well but he has chosen a women as vice president. If either party wins we will have the first of someone. That is why I think that alot of places are bribing people to vote because this will be an election in where a lot of young people will vote. That is why I think Bskin Robins is bribing people to vote with ice cream, which I think is a good bribe :]
I think this advertisement by Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is going to catch people's attention. People are probably going to vote democratic in order for them to receive free ice cream all day. This advertisement is kind of a bribe because some people are just going to vote democratic so they can get ice cream. Some of the people might not or usually don't vote might not know who is running for the Democratic party and/or know anything about them. Some of the people might not even like the Democratic party but just pretend to vote democratic in order to get ice cream. Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream was very smart for thinking of this bribing advertisement for the Presidential election this year.
I thought this was funny. Many people love ice cream and I’m guessing that people are going to go; it’s free so why not go? I think it’s an excellent way to get people motivated to vote. Even the way Ben and Jerry’s put it, “Democracy never tasted so sweet” makes is sound tempting and alluring. It is a good way to bribe people to vote. There should be more participation from Americans to vote, especially the youth. The media and businesses are doing a lot of get people to vote. This presidential election is very different from the previous ones. If Barack Obama wins, he will be the first African American to be president and if John McCain wins, we will have the first woman vice president. This presidential election will not be forgotten and will definitely make history. It’s important to encourage people to vote and Ben & Jerry’s is doing an excellent way to motivate the. Who can resist to ice cream, especially if it’s Ben & Jerry’s. It was smart of them to do that! VOTE VOTE!!!

YES, ice cream IS good! But "bribing people to vote", I don't know what to say. I guess for me I wouldn't call it "bribing". I would call it "encouraging" because they're not really doing this to make the people vote for Obama or McCain. They're just encouraging them to vote on November 4th because this is a one controversial election and they just want what is best for the country. It is also, probably, a "thank you" to them for voting on the election.
When I first say this blog it caught my eye. Getting free ice cream for voting to me is something creative and something different. It's not a big factor in making others vote, but I think it's a good step. Somethings people don't do things, like voting unless they see or have something in return. Getting a free scoop is like an award for people that vote. I think by bribing people it sometimes work because some people they are getting something in return. Having Ben& Jerry giving free scoops if you voted democratic tell you a lot. It tells you they want Senator Obama to win too, and the company probably want change.
Now there is a proof that bribing people is not always bad after all. This is a good idea of Ben and Jerrys. They want to make points here, and their points are "Let your voice be heard", "Your vote counts", "Make a change", "VOTE!". I think that this is a good way to influence and encourage people who are eligible to vote and doesn't even care. In reality, there are people like that and they should realize the real points of Ben and Jerrys. I just hope that people who will be voting in the scoop shops are not just voting for the reason of having a free ice cream. I mean, ice cream is yummy, but their reason for voting should be something more to that. However, this is a good "taking a chance" of Ben and Jerrys to wake up those people who are still dreaming and doesn't care.
To people who do care in the election, it's good that they see the real points of Ben and Jerrys. I just hope that people who do care should not cross the line and go to far. We all heard about the "stupid" people who tried to assassinate Senator Obama. It is so sad how other people can get crazy and violent for stupid reasons. It does not make sense at all. We all want a change and we all want our choice of candidate to win, but we also have to be ready to the fact that our choice may not win too. We just have to accept whoever will win even though it was our choice or not. It is God's will.
But still,Go Obama!
i think that is a good way to get people to vote! because everybody loves ice cream and i know everyone loves Ben and Jerry's. I think that if they gave you something free when you voted more people would vote. i think that getting a free scoop of ice cream would make people want to vote. Ice cream can be expensive too. Maybe younger group of kids will vote more because of free ice cream .
i think that this is kind of funny, i don't think that i would get bribed with ice cream but i bet there probably would be people that would vote for free ice cream. it seems as if this is a way of also advertising there product because they know that a lot of people will go to vote. i think that the good thing about this is that it will encourage people because everybody likes free stuff. i think that more companies and businesses should follow what ben and jerrys is doing because although it might not make me vote i am pretty sure it would make other people want to vote.
That's a great idea for them to get more costumers. I'm going to find a Ben & Jerry's close to my house and get some free ice cream. I doubt this get people who don't care about the government to want to go out and vot e before the polls close. But I can't wait to get some free ice cream; only if I can find a Ben & Jerry's. I wonder what the outcome would be from this.
WOO HOO!! Free Ice cream! That's so cool! I think that this is something cool to do just because eI love ice cream but I don't think that this is bribing too much because I haven't heard of it too much and I think that if they wanted to bribe people, they would have advertised it better. It also doesn't say hat you have to had vote to get ice cream but that they are just celebrating the idea of democracy and that we can vote in this country. I don't think that voting should be rewarded since everyone should know that it's their responsibility as citizens to vote but in the past, there has been a low voter turnout so this might help. I think that since it has been predicted that there will be a higher young voter turnout this elections, this is a good way to reward them since turnout will be higher than before but I still think that people should know that they should vote without anything in return.
I think that bribing people with ice cream, is a really good idea. It is not only giving a person, the ability to have their voice heard, but it is also giving away a scoop of FREE ice cream. Acts, like giving away ice cream for free, encourages more people to vote, and have a voice in what they think should be done, to improve our country. The only thing that I am worried about, is that I do not want people to vote, because they want to get a free scoop of ice cream. Before a person votes, they have to really inform themselves on the candidates that are running and who they think will bring a change to our country. BECAUSE, REMEMBER ONE VOTE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
My recommendation is that, even if Ben and Jerry's wasn't giving away free ice cream, a person who is eligible to vote, should vote and make a difference!!

Ben and Jerry's is trying to bring people to vote. i do not think this a bribe becasue people that can not vote can volunteer to help and get people to vote for them since they are not able to. this a good way to help people especially 18 year olds because they think their vote does not count and that it doesnt matter. but they are wrong and by helping out they will see that it is and that they should vote because they and are furtunate not like othres.
I think this is a really good idea. A lot of people like Ben & Jerry's and if they could a free scoop just by voting it's a prety good deal. It's like compensating people for taking a part in the elections. It gives younger people an initiative to vote since the younger generation really likes ice cream.
I can't believe that Ben & Jerry's ice cream shops are "bribing people to vote". It's amazing how much people want for people who hadn't vote to vote on election day. I guess if its getting people to vote than hey why not.I guess alot of people are going to vote on this election.
Now this is one good way to get people to vote. Come on who doesn’t like FREE ice cream. This is smart because they would be able to remind that they have the duty to go out and vote and get their voice heard. They only thing that I feel might not work id that people work during this time. Well at least the older people. But why to those that voted, what happened to the little ones, those that cant vote?
Thats awesome!!!!! i wish i got free ice cream just for voting. lol I should get free ice cream because tecnically i voted on the internet lol. I don't know if a lot of people would know about the free ice cream though. It seems like they are doing lot now to get people to vote. Thats good and smart of them because people should be voting. I wonder if there still doing the xbox voting???? hmm they should. I wish i could get ice cream =( i would vote. You know what i think i'm going to steal someone's sticker that says i voted just to get free ice cream =P.
I think that it's interesting that Ben & Jerry's is bribing people to vote by giving them a scoop of ice cream if they do. People should vote because it's their civic duty and responsibility to do so as an American citizen. If they don't vote, then their voices won't be heard and they'll complain about how bad a job the government is doing. Before they complain, they should think about voting and vote for the person that will best represent them. I have mixed feelings about this because I think people should vote because it's the right thing to do and not because they'll get some compensation for voting.
I agree that it is bribing. Ben and Jerry's is doing a good thing because it encourages people to vote. The free scoop of ice cream is a good incentive to get people to out to vote. Not only is it a good incentive but it is a good publicity stunt. The giving away of ice ream will give more attention to the election and bring Ben and Jerry's more customers.
I think that its funny how Ben and Jerry's is encouraging people to vote for free ice cream. I think its a good and bad bribe. Good because people get a delicious treat. Bad because its teaching people to vote for the wrong reasons. The advertisement is a great eye catcher, but the bribing idea isn't the right method to use.
Free ice cream yay! i wish i could get free ice cream, but unfortunately i will be working as a poll worker at the elections tomorrow. I think that Ben & Jerry's will need to get a lot of extra ice cream for tomorrow because i think this year's elections will have a lot of voters. This is because this year's elections will be a break through in history. I did think i would call what Benn & Jerry's is doing Bribing because they are not necessarily telling people to vote for a specific candidate, they are just celebrating democracy.
