Wow! China is really nice. If you ask me of one place that I want to go to, I want to go to Shanghai. I agree that competition is one factor that adds up to why different areas of the world have like amazing and unbelievable sights of architecture. Each country wants to make their country look good and wants to be proud of their country. Every time a new architecture is formed, maybe 98% of architects would think on their minds how to make an architecture better than that. That's why sometimes new things does not really hold fame for a period of time because another new thing comes up. I also agree that part of it is from foreign influence. I've never been to either Shanghai or New York, but I have seen pictures of them. Shanghai at night is similar to New York at night. Bright, fancy, "the place you want to go to" (for most people I guess) kind of place. I don't know any country who has never used foreign influence and just believed and used their own country's beliefs and traditions. New technology is really influential. I also thought that a country may be praised a lot, but not because of the whole country itself, just some parts of it. Maybe outside Shanghai, different parts of China is so different from Shanghai. No skyscrapers, no subways, no fancy offices. I guess this is true in all countries.
