Test your history of past debates

Plus a lot of kind of cool old footage from past debates. How have debates changed over time?

Wow I did not do well on the quiz. Better study hard on the past presidential debates and hope they aren’t on any test. Anyway President debates I think have really changed a lot. For one thing obviously the topics have changed throughout the years. The president debates will always, to my own knowledge anyways, reflect on the current situations. Therefore the topics that the presidents debate about will always be different. Also I think the people in the debate have become more vicious and cruel when having a debate. I am sure everyone has heard but McCain said that in the last debate he will Rip” Obama. I have not yet seen the debate on youtube yet but I hope Obama managed not to play McCain’s game and was the better person. Politics is a very dirty business and I would not to be a part of it.

Within the first answer, I noticed how different debates were. In the Nixon/Kennedy debate, both candidates had to share one podium. Also, their main focus was to get their message to the people. They looked straight into the camera, and said what they needed to say. There was not any anger or rude words between them; it was so professional. I think that politics in general need to go back to that time period...

Well, of course debates have become more extravagant than in the past. The candidates used to have just one podium as compared to the present very decorated stage and debate structure. Also it is seen that in the 1988 debate, the audience was much less respectful of the candidates, booing on behalf of the other party. Now, people who take part in debates vow silence throughout them.
However, what is a more noticeable change in these presidential debates is the fact that in the past the candidates used to actually focus on the issues. Although this was only very short portions of the debates, I could already see that these debates were actually about the issues as opposed to pointing fingers at one another. As Katlyn said, this is a direction we need to return to.
